A Tale of One City
When you are a Nigerian,
You are a being between a cave and the sea.
The sea roars.
It is telling you that it has seen the nakedness of your mother and her mother’s mother.
It has seen blood become dew settling on the innocent and guilty.
The cave is a den for hungry thieves that seem kind because kindness here is a strategy for murder.
You wonder,
About beautiful things before the quest for power says “It is unreal”
Star Okpeh is a Nigerian writer and poet, Miombio’s Review Princess of African Poetry 2019 and
Author of The Dance of Dawn.
