The Police in Benue State has arrested an informant who allegedly sold information to the gunmen who ambushed a police troop in Ayilamo community of Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.

Our correspondent reports that four policemen where declared missing last Saturday after gunmen attacked them on return from patrol at Ayilamo, though two of the operatives rejoined their colleagues while one of the police was on Monday found dead with  parts of his body removed.

The fourth missing policeman is yet to be found.

State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, while parading the informant alongside some armed robbers at the command headquarters in Makurdi, said that in a recent recovery operation embarked upon by the police, an AK47 riffle was recovered from an attacker who died in the operation while one suspect was arrested.

He disclosed that it was during a preliminary investigation into the matter that the suspected informant, a resident of the community was discovered to have sold out information to the attackers.

Owoseni who also condemned the killing of two Civil Defence personnel in an attack on their troop at Kaseyo village in Guma local government area of the state on Monday afternoon added that information about the incident was still sketchy as the Police and Civil Defence are comparing notes to get the details of the attack.

He further explained that the five armed robbery suspects paraded alongside the informant were apprehended in Ushongo local government area of the state after they had attacked two female victims.

The Police commissioner said that a locally made pistol and four rounds of live ammunitions as well as other items were recovered from the suspects who would soon be charged to court.
