The Yobe State Police Command has arraigned 103 suspects in court following raids on criminal hideouts and drug hotspots in Damaturu, the state capital.

The suspects were arrested by operatives of the state police command who launched a joint security operation with the state government to combat the alarming rise of drug abuse and trafficking in the state.

This operation was aimed at curbing the menace, which has led to increased crime rates in some areas.

The Public Relations Officer of the Yobe State Police Command, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, stated that out of the 103 suspects, three alleged drug barons are currently undergoing discreet investigation at the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

Abdulkarim highlighted that drug abuse can lead to addiction and dependency, physical and mental health problems, an increased risk of crime and violence, strained relationships and social isolation.

He urged the public to educate themselves and others about the risks of drug abuse.
