The police on Tuesday arraigned two cleaners, Ibrahim Umar, 21, and Ismail Usman, 18, in a Grade I Area Court, Karu, Abuja, for allegedly stealing 18 live chickens and household items.

Umar and Usman, whose addresses were not provided, are charged with joint act, theft, housebreaking.

The prosecutor, Ayotunde Adeyanju told the court that the defendants allegedly committed the offence on May 8 at Kamsey Close, AMAC Extension, Karu at about 6 p.m.

Adeyanju said that the defendants were apprehended and brought to the Karu Station by Fidelis Umar, a security guard attached to the Uphill Water Board, Karu.

“The defendants conspired with one Christopher, at large and trespassed into Mrs Ann Balami of Kamsey Close, AMAC Extension, Karu house and stole 18 live chickens and other household items.

He added that during police investigation, some of the items were recovered from the defendants possession.

The offence, Adeyanju said, contravened the provisions of sections 348, 353, 287 and 306 of the Penal Code Law .

After the charge was read to them, they pleaded not guilty.

The judge, Sani Mohammed, admitted them to bail in the sum of N300, 000 each with a reliable surety each in like sum.

Mohammed ordered that the sureties must be reliable and must be resident within the jurisdiction of the court.

He adjourned the case until May 22 for hearing. (NAN)
