Police arraign 24 over Kaduna mob killing

The Kaduna State Police Command has arraigned 24 suspects before a Magistrate Court in Kaduna over the mob killing of a woman in Maraban Jos, Igabi Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.

The suspects were brought before the court sitting at NDA Junction on charges bordering on criminal conspiracy, inciting public disturbance, mischief, destruction of public and police property, and culpable homicide.

Police authorities said the arraignment followed investigations into the incident which occurred on June 21, 2026, when a woman was allegedly attacked and killed by a violent mob after being removed from police custody.

The tragic incident sparked public outrage and renewed concerns over the growing trend of mob justice in parts of the country.

According to the Kaduna State Police Command, the court, after taking the matter, adjourned the case until July 21, 2026, for further hearing.

The magistrate also ordered that all the suspects be remanded in a correctional facility pending the determination of the case.

The police further disclosed that investigations were still ongoing and that more than 100 additional suspects were being profiled for their alleged involvement in the incident.

According to the command, those found culpable at the end of the investigation would also be charged to court.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Muhammad Rabiu, assured the public that justice would be pursued diligently in the case and that all those connected to the killing would be made to face the law.

He said the command remained committed to maintaining law and order across Kaduna State and preventing a recurrence of similar incidents.

Rabiu also urged residents to channel complaints, grievances and criminal allegations through lawful authorities rather than resorting to violence or self-help.
