The police yesterday arraigned a 36-year-old fish farm manager, Ushie Afo, in a Kubwa Grade1 Area Court, Abuja, over negligence.
Afo, who resides at Gbazango Extension in Abuja, is charged with negligent conduct.
The Prosecution Counsel, John Okpa, told the court that the complainant, Evbuomwon Rapheal reported the matter at Dutse Alhaji Police Station on Sept. 2.
Okpa alleged that the complainant entrusted the defendant to manage his fish pond at Papa’s ground, Kubwa, Abuja sometime in February.
He said the complainant invested 4,000 fingerlings valued at N240, 000, rented the pond for N60, 000 and subsequently gave the defendant a total of N1. 7 million for the fish feeds. Okpa said that the defendant allowed 2,297 fish to get missing during harvest.
The prosecutor said the complainant lost N740, 000.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Section 197 of the Penal Code.
The defendant pleaded not guilty.
The Judge, Ibrahim Balarabe, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500, 000 with one reliable surety who must be a public servant, resident within the court’s jurisdiction.
He adjourned the matter until Oct. 17 for hearing. (NAN).
