Police arraign man for allegedly assaulting brother

The police on Thursday arraigned a 22-year-old man, Nelson Chinyeaka, before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly assaulting his biological brother.

The defendant, whose address was not provided, is being charged with assault, to which he pleaded not guilty. The prosecutor, ASP Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on February 20, at about 7am at No. 9, Krope Ajayi Street, Itoga, Badagry.

Ekpo alleged that the defendant stabbed the complainant, Chigozie Chinyeaka, with a kitchen knife on his left hand, causing him to sustain a bodily injury. 

“The defendant was arrested and handed over to the police for prosecution. The offence contravenes Section 371 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015,” Ekpo said. (NAN)

The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Nurudeen Layeni, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He directed that one of the sureties must be a blood relative and adjourned the case until April 9. (NAN)
