The 50-year-old man, Abdullahi Sani, who was arrested by police in connection with alleged rape and death of a three-year-old girl of his neighbour has been remanded in prison after his arraignment.
Sani, from Jabiri quarters, Funtua, a father of seven children, was said to have committed the offence on October 12, 2017 and was arraigned on a culpable homicide charge before a senior magistrate’s court.
The Police First Information Report read to the accused, said “Abdullahi Sani, age 50 years called the victim who was three years old of the same address and took her to an uncompleted building and covered her mouth and raped her. In the process, she died instantly.”
It added that “Sani and the victim’s father, Ibrahim Abdullahi, are residing in the same house at Jabiri quarters, Funtua, while the latter reported the incident to the police.
The police prosecuting officer, Ado Sani, told the court that the actions of the accused are contrary to sections 283 and 221 of the penal code law and pleaded for more time to finalise investigation.
The Senior Magistrate, Abdulkadir Umar, then remanded the accused and adjourned the matter to December 18 for mention.
