Police arraign welder over theft of generating set, gas cooker

A 25-year-old welder, Olamigoke Epebinu, has appeared before an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State, for allegedly stealing a generating set and gas cooker worth N180,000.

The defendant, whose address was not given, is facing a two-count charge of felony and stealing.

The police prosecutor, ASP Zedekiah Orogbemi, told the court that the defendant and others at large, committed the offences on January 15, around 1am at Oluwa Glass area on Okitipupa-Igbokoda road in Okitipupa magisterial district.

Orogbemi said that the defendant and others at large, broke into the house of the complainant, Busayo Loto, and stole one gas cooker and one generating set valued at N180,000.

The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 412 and 390(9), Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against him. The Chief Magistrate, Mr Olanrewaju Adelegan, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100, 000 and one surety in like sum. Adelegan added that the surety must reside within the court jurisdiction and present evidence of two years tax payment to the state government.

He adjourned the case until May 7, for further hearing. (NAN)
