Eleven suspected members of a robbery gang that the police described as notorious have been arrested at their different hideouts at the Elemoro area of Lagos.
The arrest came just as the police said they had recovered five rifles they believed were abandoned by robbers in an uncompleted building at Ajah, Lagos. The arms, Daily Trust learnt, had been handed over to ballistic experts at the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (SCIID), Panti, Yaba, for forensic analysis.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Chike Oti, who confirmed the arms recovery, said operatives of the Lagos State Police Command’s Taskforce on Recovery of Illegal and Prohibited Firearms attached to the Area J Command Headquarters, Ajah, were on targeted raids of uncompleted, unoccupied houses and plots of land at Road 1, Block 1, Plot 7, Victory Park Estate, Osapa London, Ilasan, in the Ajah area on November 9, 2018 when they stumbled on the five rifles hidden in an unoccupied shanty.
Oti gave details of the recovered guns as three Europe pump action rifles with numbers L926547, R268751 and P987707, one locally made double-barrel rifle and one locally made single-barrel.
Oti also disclosed that when the police searched the den of the 11 armed robbery suspects, they recovered one Beretta pistol and two locally made pistols. “Progress made in investigations will be made public, as usual,” he said.
