Police arrest 11 over Zamfara killings

The police in Zamfara State have arrested 11 more suspects in connection with last week’s killing of 41 people in Zurmi Local Government Area of the state.

The spokesman of the state police command, SP Muhammad Shehu, said in a statement that the command arrested 11 active members of the dreaded and proscribed group of ‘Yansakai’ at their various hideouts in Kasuwan Daji village of Kaura-Namoda LGA. 

He said the operation was carried out in the early hours of Saturday and that it led to the recovery of one locally made gun with 68 pellets, eight swords,  three cutlasses, three cudgels, assorted charms and consignment of gun powder.

Earlier, the state commissioner of police, Kenneth Ebrimson, had paraded four suspects for their alleged involvement in the killings, stressing that they would soon be charged to court.

In a related development, the command has also arrested two suspected criminals at Bargaja village in Gusau LGA. 

One Boxer motorcycle was recovered from them and the suspects would be charged to court on completion of the investigation, Shehu said.
