The Kano state police command has paraded two young men for alleged robbery and attempted murder.
The suspects, Aminu Awwal Muhammad of Kofar Nasarawa quarters in Kano metropolis and the other simply identified as Zakariyya of Sharada quarters also in the metropolitan area.
Parading the suspects, the Command Spokesman, SP Magaji Musa Majiya said the suspects and a stolen vehicle were intercepted on Sunday around 8:30pm by a team of policemen from Mandawari Division.
The principal suspect, Muhammad, attempted to escape but he was neutralized by one of the policemen and got re-arrested.
Speaking to pressmen, Muhammad said the victim had earlier collected his credentials and promised to assist him clear his spill-over at Al-Qalam University in Katsina under the precept that he knew the head of his department.
“He (the victim) called me on Sunday that I should meet him in Rimin Gado, warning that I should go alone, but I invited my friend Zakariyya to accompany me,” he said
Muhammad added that when they got to Rimin Gado, the victim asked him to wait at a place close to a court from where he picked him to his house.
“In his house he asked me to wait on a mat while he went in to bring out my credentials. When he came out he began to touch my trouser, while I attempted to stop him, he called someone from one of the rooms to come and assist him hold me,” he narrated
He added that he struggled to free himself from them and in the process he saw the sharp spindle that he attacked the victim with.
On his part, the other suspect, Zakariyya, said his friend, Aminu, called him on phone that he should accompany him to Rimin Gado.
He said, “When we got there, he asked me to wait at a particular spot until he returns from his uncle’s house which I did. Later he came with a car telling me that we should rush and leave the place. When I inquired what happened, he said there was no time to explain. He later told me that the man attempted to rape him.”
Majia said investigation in to the matter was ongoing and the police are assessing the health condition of the victim.
“If he survives, we would charge them on robbery and attempted culpable homicide. If he doesn’t, we would charge them for culpable homicide, conspiracy and armed robbery,” he said.
