Parading the suspects at the police command in Port Harcourt, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ahmed Muhammed, said the arrests of the suspects were “attributed to the tremendous support the command was receiving from the security consciousness and patriotic attitude of the people of the state who volunteer credible and reliable information.”
The PPRO said the suspects included 38 armed robbers and 162 suspected kidnappers, adding that “on 17th May, 2015 at about 7.00pm along East-West highway, a  team of anti-robbery squad acting on a distress call that one Mr David Nwoka’s vehicle , a Toyota Camry, earlier snatched at gun point was sighted at Obiri-Ikwerre while heading towards Port Harcourt city.
“The police in a swift action pursued the car and engaged the hoodlums in a shootout where three of the unidentified suspected armed robbers got fatally wounded. The snatched vehicle along with one AK47 rifle, 10 rounds 7.62 ammunition, 1 pump action and 11 cartridges were recovered,” he said.
The PPRO said a combined team of policemen stormed a cultists’ den at Rumuekini in Port Harcourt on 31st May 2014 at about 8.00pm and engaged them in a gun duel where 31 suspected cultists were arrested while one was fatally wounded.
He said items recovered from the enclave included three pump action guns, 80 rounds of cartridges, assorted charms and various electronics.
