Police arrest 3 highway robbery suspects in Ogun

Police in Ogun State, yesterday, disclosed the arrest of three robbery suspects allegedly terrorising motorists along Odogbolu/Ijebu Ode Express way.

The suspects are Johnson Afokolu, Victor Michael and Jacob Usang, all males.

A statement issued on Sunday in Abeokuta by the police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the suspects were arrested on Saturday by policemen attached to Odogbolu division who were on patrol of the highway.

He said the trio had placed themselves in an ambush manner along the express road and when they sighted the police operatives, they took to the heels.

Oyeyemi said items recovered from them were; one toy gun, six torch lights, military face cap, dried weeds suspected to be Indian hemp, knife, assorted clothes and three different types of hand sets.

“On interrogation, they confessed to have been responsible for most of the robbery cases in the area and that other members of their gang always joined them on special operations,” he said.

Oyeyemi said the Commissioner of Police,  Bashir Makama, had ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad for discreet investigation.

He added that the CP also ordered a massive manhunt for the remaining members of the gang to ensure sanity along the road.
