Police arrest 3 men with pistol in Gombe

The Gombe State Police Command has arrested three young men in connection with the unlawful possession of a pistol, a development that has heightened concerns about the growing circulation of prohibited firearms among youths in the state.

The suspects, 22-year-old Shamsudeen Haruna, 20-year-old Tahir Ismail Ahmad, and 18-year-old Muhammed Abdullahi, were apprehended on Friday, September 19, 2025, around 9.30pm in the Doma area, behind Government Girls Secondary School, Gombe.

A statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, said detectives acted on credible intelligence which indicated that the trio were in possession of a firearm.

Acting swiftly, a team of operatives intercepted and arrested them before any harm could be done.

“The suspects were caught with the pistol in their possession at the time of arrest,” a police statement said. “They are currently being interrogated, and an investigation is ongoing to unravel how they acquired the weapon and whether they are linked to any wider criminal network.”
