The police in Edo State have arrested members of a syndicate that specialises in defrauding youths in Edo and Delta states with a promise of securing jobs for them under the Federal Ethnic Council.

The group is alleged to have sold recruitment forms to their victims at N15,000 each, after an initial payment of N2000 registration fee.

They reportedly deceive their victims that they would be recruited by the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs and would work under the Communities Security Operation Department.

Parading the suspects in Benin, the state Police Commissioner, Haliru Gwandu, said the leader of the group, identified as Prince Oyibo Emmanuel, was nabbed in Benin while addressing hundreds of youths who purchased the form.

Emmanuel was paraded alongside Oyibo Enonegberu and Etsede Emmanuel, Director of Women Affairs and secretary of the group respectively.

Prince Oyibo who said he was the leader and commander of the group, said he did not register the organisation because it was already recognised by the Ministry of Niger Delta.

 “We used the money collected from them to keep peace in oil and gas producing communities. We have a lot of communities that recommended their youths to us. I represent all ethnic nationalities, and to register with us is N10,000 but it is the Federal Government that will train them and give them job,” he said.

On his part, the Secretary, Etsede, said each applicant paid N15,000 for the form and identity card pending when the job was available. He said he was arrested last Saturday when they came to address the people that applied in Edo State, saying that they were arrested by the police after an argument ensued when the people demanded for refund of their money.

Meanwhile, the police commissioner said the suspects would soon be charged to court after investigation.
