The police in Bauchi State have arrested three persons for allegedly raping young girls in Ningi and Warji local government areas.

The spokesman of the police in the state, SP Ahmed Wakil, who disclosed this to newsmen, said Garba Musa and Usman Ali from Ningi Town conspired and lured an 11-year-old girl and raped her.

SP Wakil said, “The girl who sells groundnut cake told her parents that the suspects lured and raped her on several occasions.

Wakil further said one Saleh Luwaji had also been apprehended by the command for raping a 20-year-old woman in Warji LGA, adding that the arrest followed a report to the police by the victim’s father, Ya’u Dungala.

Wakil explained that all the suspects confessed to the crimes and would be charged to court when further investigations were concluded.

Meanwhile, the Secretary of the Bauchi State Committee on Sex and Gender-Based Violence, Hajiya Talatu Musa Gar, while speaking on the development, said the committee would follow the cases to their logical conclusions.

She assured of the committee’s readiness to fight sexual and gender-based violence in the state through advocacy and public enlightenment.

Meanwhile, an Ekiti State magistrates’ court in Ado Ekiti has ordered the remand of one Ajibola Odebo (40) for raping a 12-year-old-girl.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Oriyomi Akinwale, earlier told the court that the offence was committed in Ado Ekiti. The Magistrate, Dolapo Fasuba, who ordered the defendant to be remanded, condemned the increase in rape cases and sexual assault in the society and adjourned the case to March 18, 2021.
