The Anambra State Police Command has arrested three suspected car and phones snatchers in Aguata Local Goverment Area of the state.

The suspects are Anyingor Arinze Othuke of Asaba Delta State, Chinedu Nweke of Mbekwe Estate of Ogidi and Ebuka Christian Eziamaka of Ire village, Obosi, both of Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The spokesman of the police in the state, Harunna Muhammed, in a statement on Thursday, said the suspects were arrested on August 26, by Operation Puff-Adder operatives in conjunction with police detectives attached to Aguata Division following intelligence report.

Mohammed said over 150 handsets, reasonably suspected to have been stolen from different victims, were recovered from the suspects.

He said the suspects were among the gang involved in series of armed robbery/carjacking in Anambra and Asaba axis, including the snatching of one Toyota Corolla 2004 and a Lexus 300 car on July 21, in Aguata.

“Exhibits recovered in their possession include one Gionee handset belonging to one of the victims whose vehicle was snatched. Others are 12 itel phones of different models, 26 Infinix phones of different models, 32 Tecno phones of different models, 16 Samsung phones of different models, 3 Gionee phones of different models and 60 other smaller phones of different makes and models all reasonably suspected to have been snatched from different victims,” he said.

He said their case was under investigation after which the suspects would be charged to court.

Meanwhile, the command has enjoined the members of the public whose handsets were either snatched or stolen through similar modus to report at the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Akwuzu, in order to claim their handsets and also give further evidence to aid police investigation.
