Operatives of the anti-kidnapping squad attached to the Kano state police command have arrested three suspected kidnappers over alleged kidnapping of a 4-yr-old boy in the state metropolis.
The suspects were apprehended following a report from the father of the boy, one Mustapha Mohammed of Goron Dutse quarters in the Kano city.
SP Magaji Musa Majia, the Police Public Relations Officer of the state’s Police Command told our reporter that on receiving the report, detectives from Anti-kidnapping Squad were mobilized on the directives of the state’s Police Commissioner, Mr Rabi’u Yusuf with a view to rescuing the victim unhurt and arresting perpetrators of the dastardly act.
“Mohammed reported to the command that his son, Al-Amin Mustapha, was missing but was later called via cell phone No. 08069777966 and the caller demanded the sum of N100,000 from him as ransom before they could release the boy” he said.
He identified the suspects as Idris Ibrahim, 19, resident of Goron Dutse quarters; Khalid Abdulrahman, 24, of Unguwar Dabai quarters and Ahmed Ibrahim Usman, 20, of Aisami quarters.
The principal suspect, Ibrahim, confessed to have masterminded the operation saying he demanded for the ransom to enable him sow new clothes.
Ibrahim told our reporter that he was handed over to the police by his siblings immediately the information of the alleged kidnapping filtered out.
He said, “I came across the boy at Goron Dutse, took him to my sister’s house at Kankare and told her that the child belongs to one of our uncles. I then borrowed her phone and called the boy’s father and told him that I have kidnapped his son and I need N100, 000 as ransom before I could release him.
Ibrahim said he directed the father of the child to meet him at Sabuwar Rami, Unguwar Dabai.
“After a while my sister collected her phone and I went out with the child to a particular football field at Unguwar Dabai where I was to wait for Alhaji to bring the ransom. While waiting after I had exhausted the credit on my sister’s phone, I approached Abdulrahman and borrowed his phone and called the father of the child to hasten up.
Speaking to Kano Chronicle, the father of the kidnapped child said three of them were sent on an errand in the neighborhood before he was kidnapped around 9am on Friday.
He said he first reported the issue at Jakara police station before it was referred to the anti-kidnapping unit of the state police command whose personnel were mobilsed to effect the rescue and eventual arrest of the suspects.
He said the child was confirmed hale and hearty at Sir Sanusi Specialist Hospital.
The Police spokesman said as soon as investigation was completed, the suspects would be charged to court for prosecution.
