The police in Cross River State have arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of a village head in Calabar Municipality of the state.

Ntufam Ekong Itu Omin of Ikot Abenyo community was reportedly killed by suspected assassins on February 26, 2018 in Calabar. 

The command spokesperson, Irene Ugbo, who confirmed the arrest, said the police were still investigating the killing.

It was gathered that chiefs and people of Ikot Omin Community in Calabar have called on the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hafiz Inuwa, to prosecute the three suspects in court while intensifying efforts to arrest other suspects who are still at large. 

Speaking with journalists in Calabar on the issue, counsel to the community, Barr. Ayei Okpa, who spoke on behalf of the community, said witnesses said the killers and their sponsors belong to dreaded cult groups in Calabar who might have masterminded the recent killings in the city.

“This evil group has foisted an orgy of unprovoked violence and bloodletting on the community and held the community to its tenterhooks,” Okpa said.
