Operatives of Ogun Police Command arrested three suspects allegedly belonging to a robbery gang terrorizing Iju Ota and its environs in Ado Odo-Ota Local Government Area of the state.

The suspects, Bamidele Oluwashina, 31, Adebowale  Kehinde, 32 and Oluwasegun Abayomi were arrested following a distress call received by the police at Onipanu divisional headquarters.

Daily Trust learnt that police acted on a report lodged at the station that some armed robbers have invaded Iju Love bus stop and Tipper Garage wielding weapons and dispossessing people of their valuables.

The spokesperson of the command, Abimbola Oyeyemi on Sunday said following receipt of the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) at Onipanu, Bamidele Ishola Job, mobilized his patrol team to the scene and engaged the robbers in gun duel.

He said three of the suspects were arrested while others fled.

“Having realised the superior fire power of the police, the hoodlums took to their heels but one of them was arrested at the scene.

“The entire area was cordoned off while police intensified search for other members of the gang with the help of members of the community. Two other members of the gang were sighted trying to escape in a tricycle and they were promptly arrested,” Oyeyemi said.

He said one Tosin Ajayi who was macheted in the head by the hoodlums was quickly taken to the hospital by the police for treatment.

Oyeyemi said the police recovered one cut to size locally made pistol and two live cartridges from the hoodlums.

He said the Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun, had ordered the transfer of the suspects to state criminal investigation and intelligence department for discreet investigation, while appealing to the public not to allow cultists to fester in their area as they were associated with all forms of violent crimes.
