The police in Benue State have arrested three suspects and intercepted a large consignment of Indian hemp packaged in 509 parcels along Otukpo-Makurdi highway of the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, who paraded the suspects alongside the illegal product before newsmen in Makurdi, said the substance was concealed in a J5 bus that was conveying it.

“Almost half of the vehicle was demarcated to hide the illegal substance and give the impression that they were carrying other things that were not contraband like tyres.

“We understand from preliminary findings that it was masterminded by someone from Maiduguri in Borno State,” he said.

Owoseni added that each of the sealed 509 bread-like wrapped Indian hemp weighed 3.4kg and that it was being conveyed from Edo State to another part of the country before its interception in Benue.
