Police arrest 35-year-old man for alleged murder

The Osun State police command has arrested a 35-year-old man, Teslim Akerele, for alleged murder, kidnapping and unlawful possession of firearms.

Akerele was arrested together with a suspected accomplice, Femi Bamidele, by the command’s Special Anti-Cultism Squad.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mrs Abiodun Ige, parading the suspect on Friday, told journalists that Akerele was promoting a criminal gang that constituted a threat to the security of the state.

Ige explained there had been several letters of complaint against Akerele, who he said was invited by the police but didn’t honour the invitation and had been evading arrest.

The police boss alleged the suspect murdered Sunday Ogoja at a forest reserve near Orile-Owu on November 14, 2018, and also killed one Abiodun Rasaq Akande at Aremo Royal Hotel, Orile-Owu, on July 12, 2019.

The police Commissioner added that on September 19, 2019, detectives found assorted weapons in Akerele’s residence at Ikoyi, in the Isokan local government area of the state, during a search.

Ige said items recovered from the suspect included one rifle, one pump action rifle, two cut-to-size single barrel guns, 11 single barrel guns, 29 live cartridges, three sharp knives, charms, eight mobile phones and a sum of N351,196.
