The Katsina State Police Command has arrested four suspects in connection with a mob action that led to the death of a man identified as KC Joe in Kokami Village, Danja Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s spokesman, Abubakar Sadiq, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, noting that the suspects are in custody while investigations continue.
According to the police, the incident followed a dispute between the deceased and one Ibrahim Auwal. The altercation reportedly escalated when Joe allegedly stabbed Auwal, who later died from his injuries, triggering a violent mob response that also claimed Joe’s life.
Sources said the disagreement began over the purchase of garri and sachet water before turning violent. They added that after news of Auwal’s death spread, angry youths allegedly mobilised, attacked Joe, killed him, and set his body ablaze along a highway.
Police operatives were said to have swiftly responded to the scene upon receiving the report, restoring normalcy and ensuring the safety of residents and affected families.
The Commissioner of Police, Ali Fage, condemned the incident and urged members of the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands, advising them to report disputes to the nearest police station.
Similarly, the Katsina State Government described the development as “deeply unfortunate and unacceptable,” stressing that the incident was a criminal matter arising from a personal dispute, not an ethnic or religious conflict.
In a statement issued by the Katsina State Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs and signed by the Commissioner, Dr Nasir Mu’azu, the government assured that all those involved in both the initial stabbing and the subsequent mob action would be brought to justice.
