Police arrest 4 tanker hijackers, recover 20 tons of petrol

The police in Oyo State have arrested four people in connection with a hijacked tanker and recovered 20 tons of petrol.

The state’s police spokesman, Adewale Osifeso, who paraded the suspects: Olumide Akinyemi, Mohammed Olajide, Azeez Okunlola and Salaudeen Farouk, said preliminary investigation revealed that the diverted Mack trailer was billed to deliver the oil at an industrial company located at Oluyole area of Ibadan.

He said, “On 24th Au gust, 2022, at about 0700hrs, a team of police operatives attached to the Command Monitoring Unit, Eleyele, Ibadan, while on intelligence-based anti-crime patrol within Ibadan metropolis, received a credible information that some members of a notorious criminal syndicate specialised in hijacking and diversion of trailers on the highways in different parts of Oyo State were sighted at a desolate spot near Guru Maraji area, Ibadan, where they were siphoning oil from a Mack trailer with Re No: JJJ 417 XC, suspected to have been hijacked and diverted.

“Sequel to this information, the police operatives moved swiftly to the location and in the process two members of the criminal gang and two of their criminal receivers were apprehended.

“Preliminary investigation later revealed that the diverted Mack trailer was billed to deliver the oil at an industrial company located at Oluyole area, Ibadan. Hence the management of the company has been contacted and they confirmed the incident.”
