The Jigawa State Police Command said that in a recent operation conducted by its operatives it arrested five suspected thieves.
DSP Shiisu Lawan Adam, the command’s spokesperson, who disclosed this to City & Crime, said that on November 5, one Mustapha Dahiru, a resident of Baskwar village in Babura LGA, reported that his sheep had been stolen from his house in the early hours of the morning.
He said a prompt action by the police resulted in the arrest of Isah Musa, Sa’idu Bello and Ibrahim Muhammad with the stolen sheep.
DSP Shiisu further said that in a separate incident on November 6, officers patrolling along Basirka-Darazo road apprehended one Tasiu Saidu with bundles of suspected stolen armoured cables believed to be the property of the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO).
He said, “Unable to provide a satisfactory account of the cables, Saidu was taken into custody for further investigation.
“During interrogation, he admitted to vandalising the cable wires along Basirka-Darazo road, and it was discovered that he has a history of targeting KEDCO’s critical assets in Jigawa and Bauchi states.”
He also said another arrest was made on November 9, when police officers on patrol along Gujungu-Majiya road intercepted one Jabir Ali in possession of three sacks containing vandalised cable wires strongly suspected to be stolen.
He said the suspect could not provide a satisfactory explanation for the cable wires and was taken to the police station and that during questioning he confessed to vandalising the cable wires belonging to KEDCO after a pole fell.
