Police arrest 65 suspects, recover N1.85m ransom in Edo

Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested 65 suspected kidnappers and recovered one million, eight hundred and fifty thousand naira, believed to be ransom proceeds, within the state.

The command’s spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, said the suspects were arrested following a raid on the Zango area in Aviele, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State.

She explained that following credible intelligence that suspected kidnappers were sighted at Zango and Max Square Properties in Aviele, the command’s tactical team—alongside operatives from the Ekpoma and Auchi commands—stormed the identified hideouts and made the arrests.

According to Ikoedem, technical analysis had linked ransom negotiation activities to that specific area.

“The operation led to the arrest of 65 kidnapping suspects and the recovery of N1,850,000 reasonably suspected to be ransom proceeds,” she stated.

She added that Nigerian Army uniforms, kits, and other incriminating items were also recovered from the scene.

The spokesperson further explained that the suspects are undergoing discreet investigations to ascertain their level of involvement in kidnapping activities in the region.
