The Police in Benue State have arrested an 80-year-old man and six other suspects in connection with the killing of the Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Benue State chapter, Alhaji Ardo Risku Mohammed, and another victim, Yakubu Isa.
Late Mohammed and his Isa were murdered on July 1 while returning from a security meeting convened by the divisional police of Ohimini Local Government Area in Benue State.
The police had earlier arrested 10 suspects following the incident.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the State, DSP Udeme Edet, in a statement on Saturday, noted that the latest arrests followed sustained intelligence gathering, painstaking investigation and continuous tactical operations by operatives of the command.

She listed the newly arrested suspects as Chief Morgan Ejaga, 43; Chief Moses Anteyi, 45; Chief John Ogli, 58; Chief Yawuhu Adaji, 49; Sylvester Ajonye, 80; Aba Alexander Uloko, 59; and Fidelis Iduma, 45.
The police spokesperson said the arrests were made during intelligence-led operations as part of the ongoing investigation into the murder of the MACBAN chairman and Yakubu Isa.
She stated that the Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, CP Cletus Nwadiogbu, commended the investigating and tactical teams for their professionalism and sustained efforts, which have continued to produce positive results.
The Command assured residents that investigations were still ongoing, stressing that anyone found to have participated directly or indirectly in the killings would be identified, arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The Police Commissioner appealed to members of the public to remain calm and continue to support the police and other security agencies with credible and timely information that would assist ongoing investigations while reiterating the command’s commitment to ensuring justice for the victims and maintaining peace, law and order across Benue State.
