The Yobe State Police Command has arrested four suspects for the abduction of 35-year-old Abdulhamid Garba and recovered a Toyota Prado SUV used in the commission of the crime.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed the development to journalists in Damaturu, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing.

He stated that operatives from the Potiskum Divisional Police Headquarters, acting on credible intelligence, apprehended the suspects on February 16, 2026, at about 10:30 pm.

According to the PPRO, the suspects were intercepted following “suspicious and unusual movement” of their vehicle within the Potiskum metropolis, leading to the successful rescue of the victim.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim, a resident of the Nayi-Nawa quarters in Damaturu, was abducted by suspects posing as security operatives.

The group allegedly leveled false allegations of graft and financial impropriety against the victim as a ploy to unlawfully detain, intimidate, and extort him before forcefully transporting him toward Potiskum in a hired vehicle.

SP Abdulkarim identified the mastermind as Mohammed Usman (32), who allegedly conspired with Kabiru Ibrahim Umar (42), Idriss Abdullahi Zakaria (27), and Matthew Obata (21).

“The suspects reportedly specialises in defrauding unsuspecting members of the public, particularly merchants, by disguising themselves as security personnel. All suspects claimed to be staff of Transworld Private Security Guard, Kano,” the PPRO stated.
