Police arrest cultists’ armourer in Lagos

The police in Lagos State have arrested one Samuel Ani, said to be the armourer of a cult group in Ikorodu area of the state.

Detectives attached to the Lagos State Police Command, at the weekend, reportedly stormed the venue of a secret meeting organised by suspected members of Aiye confraternity at Ikorodu where the suspect was arrested.

The police said the meeting, which was allegedly called at the instance of Ani, was meant to carry out a reprisal attack on members of Eiye (a rival cult group) in the area.

It was gathered that the planned attack was to avenge the murder of a member of the gang allegedly by those in Eiye cult group.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Zubairu Muazu, said policemen attached to Safe Highway and those of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in Ikorodu base mobilized to the scene upon receiving information about the meeting.

He said on sighting the operatives, the armed cultists scampered to different directions to avoid arrest.

He said they were chased and that in the process, one of the suspects known as Samuel Ani, was arrested and a revolver pistol was allegedly recovered from him.

“A search conducted in his house led to further recovery of one revolver pistol, three AK 47 live ammunition and Eiye confraternity cap,” Muazu said.
