The dare-devil leader of an armed robbery gang in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, Saheed Adebayo, 21, has been arrested by the police.

Adebayo, whose alias is “Asarailu” (angel of death) was paraded alongside nine other members of his gang at the Police headquarters, Eleweran, on Tuesday.

The suspect, who claimed to have been in the business for the past five years, said he was nicknamed ‘angel of death’ by his boss who observed his ruthlessness anytime they were carrying out robbery operation.

Adebayo said he was initiated into cultism by one Ahmed, identified as ‘Boss’ before he was recruited into the robbery gang.

“I have operated in Mowe, Gbobi, Aja Onibode, Berger and I have collected so many things from people. There was a carnival in Mowe where I was shot by another group called Computer. I had fought them before and they’ve been looking for me.

“They were searching for me to kill and I was also looking for them to kill them, but I was shot twice and I ran away with the bullet wound,” he said.

The Ogun State Police Commissioner, Ahmed Iliyasu, at the parade, said the suspect confessed to have been shot and matcheted severally by other robbery gangs.

Also paraded was a three-woman kidnapping syndicate that specialised in stealing children around Mowe-Ibafo area of the state.

Those arrested are the leader of the gang who had earlier been convicted and sentenced to prison, Abibat Oresanya, Morenike Shittu and Olubunmi Funke.

Also, the police in Enugu have arrested two robbery suspects at a hotel in New Haven area of the Enugu metropolis.

The state police spokesman, Ebere Amaraizu, said the suspects, Chika Ezenwa and  Emmanuel Sunday, are helping the police in their investigations concerning their nefarious activities within Abakpa and its environs.
