Operatives of the Anti-fraud Unit of the Zone 16 headquarters of the Nigeria Police Force in Yenogoa, Bayelsa State, have arrested a man accused of N1.150 billion fraud.

The police also accused Nnedim Ikechukwu, a Port Harcourt-based herbalist, of illegal possession of fake $1, 290,000.

According to the police, while the anti-fraud unit were investigating the allegation of N1.150bn complaint against the suspect by one of the victims in the Borokiri area of Port Harcourt, a search at his home in Omogwa community showed that suspected fake $1,290,000 were hidden in two medium-sized boxes.

The zonal spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force, Zone 16 command, CSP Ikwo Kelvin Lafieghe, who confirmed the arrest, said the command has already paraded the suspect for alleged involvement in Advanced Free Fraud popularly called 419 and unlawful possession of fake dollars.

Daily Trust on Sunday gathered that the suspect, who claims to be a native doctor and traditionalist, was contacted by two businessmen to provide them a spiritual charm that will make an expatriate give them a multimillion-naira oil contract.

According to a source, “the native doctor charged them N550, 000 each for the job and they paid him N1.6million. The suspect purportedly prepared the charm and sometime in July 2022, they claimed the charm worked and an expatriate businessman in Nigeria secured them an oil supply job worth $152m, which is equivalent to N1.150, 000,000.”

They alleged that when they returned the money to him for “spiritual cleansing” he replaced some with fake dollars and disappeared with the real notes.
