The police in Benue State yesterday arrested an informant who allegedly sold information to the gunmen who ambushed a police team in Ayilamo community of Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.

Our correspondent reports that four policemen were declared missing last Saturday after gunmen attacked them as they returned from patrol at Ayilamo, though two of the operatives rejoined their colleagues while one of them was on Monday found dead.

The fourth policeman is yet to be found.

The State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, while parading the informant alongside some armed robbers at the command headquarters in Makurdi, said that in a recent recovery operation embarked upon by the police, an AK47 riffle was recovered from an attacker who died in the operation while one suspect was arrested.

He said it was during a preliminary investigation into the matter that the suspected informant, a resident of the community was discovered to have sold out information to the attackers.

He said the five armed robbery suspects paraded alongside the informant were apprehended in Ushongo Local Government Area of the state after they had attacked two female victims.

CP Owoseni said a locally made pistol and four rounds of live ammunition as well as other items were recovered from the suspects who would soon be charged to court.
