Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested a suspected fraudster, Ovoke Edire, over alleged hacking of people’s bank accounts.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Edafe Bright, said the suspect hacked into a foreign account where he discovered about $21,000.

He said that in order to defraud the owner of the account, the suspect approached a car dealer that he wanted to buy a Lexus RS 350 but would pay in dollars.

He explained that, “The dealer gave him his dollar account and he initiated the transfer from the victim’s mobile app to the dealer’s account and generated a receipt for the transaction, which he showed the car dealer.”

He said that the car dealer, who was shown a transaction receipt on the phone, decided to go to the bank and confirm because the money was huge, only for him to discover it was a fake receipt the suspect showed him, hence that he raised the alarm and the suspect was arrested by the police.

The suspect in a video interview with the command, said he hacked the victim’s Facebook account, where he saw the victim’s name and password, which he changed and signed him out.

“I went online to search for the bank and found $21,000 in his account. I then approached a car dealer who has a dollar account that I wanted to buy a Lexus RS 350 through the dollar account,” he said.
