The Akwa Ibom State Police Command said it has arrested an armed robbery gang said to have killed over 15 persons, maimed and stolen property of other victims.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Odiko Macdon, said the gang was led by one Malachi Friday Uwem.
He said the gang members were traced to their hideout at Ikang in Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River State.
Macdon who spoke in Uyo yesterday said a shootout broke out between the police and the gang resulting in the fatal injury of three of the four members of the gang.
Macdon said that the operatives of Special Weapons and Tactics Squad (SWAT) of the Command recovered one cut to size pump action gun, one locally made pistol, a large number of cartridges, one gas head with a resemblance to a gun, and assorted types of charms in the raid.
The PPRO said the Commissioner of Police, Andrew Amiengheme, has vowed that Akwa Ibom State would not be a safe haven for hoodlums.
