The Kano State Police Command has arrested a notorious tricycle rider, Yusuf Abdulrahman (19), of Rimin Kebe Quarters, for stealing phones at various locations in Kano metropolis.

The suspect and his gang members were said to have been stylishly stealing passengers’ phones by sudden pressing of brakes to shock them.

According to the spokesman of the command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the suspect, who was once arrested and sentenced to prison, was rearrested after receiving series of complaints by people that he stole their phones.

He said, “We received a distress call from Kwari Market that he stole some number of phones. With the help of some people and KAROTA personnel, as well as our team of Puff Adder, he was arrested, but the driver who they were operating together escaped.”

Kiyawa said owners of recovered four mobile phones from the suspected had been contacted to collect their phones.

Confessing to the crime, the suspect said he was freed few months ago from prison and that they had been stealing phones using the same style.

He said, “We normally carry passengers, and while we are going, we will take another direction which the passengers are not heading to. When they complain the driver will press the brake and as it shocks them, I will steal the phones. After that we will drop them and go.”
