The Benue State Police Command on Sunday disclosed the arrest of an armed robbery suspect and the recovery of firearms during a raid on a criminal hideout in the Gboko Local Government Area of the state.
Police spokesperson, DSP Udeme Edet, said that operatives of Operation Zenda Joint Task Force carried out the arrest around 11 pm on Friday following credible intelligence that a gang was planning coordinated attacks in parts of Gboko East.
Edet said that one suspect, identified as Liambe Orpine, 35, from Anvambe in Buruku LGA, was arrested, while other members of the gang fled on sighting security operatives.
She listed items recovered at the scene to include an AK-47 rifle, three locally fabricated Dane guns, and a jackknife.
The police spokesperson added that the suspect is in custody, while efforts are ongoing to track down his accomplices, stressing that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
