The police in Gombe have paraded a student of Gombe State College for Legal and Islamic Studies, Nafada, for allegedly sending a threat message to the college’s registrar’s phone.

Daily Trust learnt that in the purported message, Abubakar Sadiq Mohammed, 26, warned the registrar and ordered him to stop a scheduled examination and close the institution or there would be mass abduction of students and killing of staff.

 Parading the suspect, the state Commissioner of Police, Tairu Shina Olukolu, said the college management contacted the police after receiving the threat message.

 He disclosed that the command immediately swung into action in collaboration with other security agencies which led to the arrest of the principal suspect.

 “After a painstaking job in collaboration with sister security agencies, the principal suspect, one Abubakar Sadiq Mohammed, 26, first year student of the Department of Sharia and Legal Studies was arrested,” he said.

 Olukolu added that his two accomplices, Haruna Mohammed, 28 and Gambo Mohammed, 37, were also arrested and incriminating items recovered from the suspects including one SIM card which was used to send the message, seven pre-registered SIM cards, four different local governments’ indigene certificates and two UN medals.  According to the CP, investigation by the Department of State Security (DSS) revealed that Abubakar also used a fake NECO result to secure admission into the institution. 

Speaking to Daily Trust, the suspect said he sent the fake message to the registrar to get more time to read because he was not prepared for the exam.  “When the timetable for the examination was released, I was not prepared as I joined the college late. Therefore, I sent the message thinking that the closure of the institution will give me enough time to read,” he said.
