The police in Edo State have arrested one suspect in connection with the killing of a pastor in the state.
It was gathered that the late pastor, Pius Eromosele, of the Church of God Mission in Benin, was allegedly killed by gunmen in Odighi community.
It was further gathered that the deceased was abducted by the gunmen on March 29, while working on his farm.
It was learnt that Eromosele’s decomposing body and that of another victim were discovered in the bush by a search party comprising hunters and vigilantes five days later.
Speaking with our reporter, the state Commissioner of Police, Johnson Kokumo, who confirmed the arrest dismissed reports that the late pastor was killed by Fulani herdsmen.
He described the incident as a case of kidnapping, adding that only one person was killed in the incident.
“One suspect was arrested and is currently undergoing interrogation. It was a clear case of kidnapping. I have not seen where herdsmen and farmers clash and the herdsmen demand ransom. Three people were kidnapped. Two of them escaped from the kidnappers’ camp,” he said.
He added that late Eromosele was the one who employed the two other persons to work in his farm.
