Armed robbery suspects and members of two secret cult gangs, Eiye and Aiye Confraternity, were nabbed by detectives attached to the Lagos State Police Command in a coordinated operation.

The operations were embarked upon between Saturday and Sunday at Ajah, Lekki, Ikorodu and Ojota areas of the metropolis.

Our correspondent learnt that heads of the different cult gangs in Ajah and Ikorodu were also arrested during the raid aimed at restoring confidence in police personnel serving in Lagos area.

Various items which include television sets, telephones, computers, wristwatches and huge cash, were also recovered from the different gangs.

Daily Trust had reported that robbers had taken over major roads in the metropolis as a result of the absence of police personnel at the duty post. But in a swift response, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the command had constantly embarked on convoy patrol to deter criminal elements from operating in any part of the state.

A police source said the command had intelligence report that some armed robbery suspects as well as rival cult gang were planning to launch attacks in Ajah and Ikorodu.

The source said it was based on the intelligence report that the coordinated operation was carried out.

Though, the identities of those arrested could not be ascertained as at press time, sources said rival cult gang members had engaged themselves in fracas at Ajah.

It was learnt that the cult activities had heightened tension in Ajah Epe and Lekki areas.

Adejobi added that policemen were deployed to Ajah on Sunday morning to raid some identified black spots.

“We have some suspects arrested and stolen items recovered,” he added.
