The Edo State Police Command said it has arrested three suspected members of Aye confraternity for allegedly assaulting and dehumanizing one Olivia, a Tiktok social media user, in Benin City.
The suspects include Omozejele John (29), Smart Ogbeide (29) and Tajudeen Afesume (30).
Spokesperson of the command, Bello Kongtons, said the arrest followed a viral video clip in which some young men suspected to be cultist were seen assaulting and dehumanizing a young lady.
He said after the video, the Commissioner of Police, Philip Aliyu Ogbadu, directed a discreet investigation and intelligence-based approach to unravel those behind the dastardly act.
He said the suspects were arrested on September 26 and 27 at their respective hideouts in Benin City.
According to him, the suspects have confessed to the crime as well as being members of Aye Secret Cult, adding that they have given useful information that will lead to the arrest of other suspects who are at large.
He assured that the suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded.
