Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a suspected gunrunner who allegedly confessed to linking buyers with firearm suppliers in Kaduna State.

The suspect, Mustapha Mohammed, 20, was arrested alongside another suspect, Sanusi Musa, during an intelligence-led operation.

The arrest followed credible intelligence on an attempt to illegally sell a firearm.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Mohammed, a truck conductor who frequently travels between Kaduna and Lagos, allegedly contacted Musa around 5.25pm to help source a buyer for a Beretta pistol.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, confirmed the development, stating that operatives acted swiftly on the intelligence and apprehended the suspects during the attempted transaction.

Fatai said one Beretta pistol was recovered at the scene.

“During interrogation, Mohammed allegedly admitted to helping buyers obtain firearms from suppliers in Kaduna State. The suspects also identified one Umaru Naeem, said to be based in Kaduna, as the owner of the recovered pistol and the principal suspect,” he said.

He added that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect and uncover other members of the suspected arms trafficking network.
