Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested five suspected kidnappers and recovered an AK47 rifle loaded with 36 rounds of 7.6 ammunition.
The command’s spokesperson, Bright Edafe, said the suspects were arrested on April 24 in the Ughelli area of the state.
He said the command’s tactical team based in Ughelli, while acting on credible intelligence, arrested one Ahmadu Usman, 22, at Ekuigbo area of Ughelli in connection with a kidnapping syndicate terrorising commuters along Ughelli–Warri Road. He said further interrogation of the suspect led to the arrest of one Haruna Abdullahi, 37, at Trailer Park along Warri–Sapele Road and three other suspects.
He said one AK-47 rifle loaded with 36 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition was recovered from them, adding that the suspects, who are in custody, would be charged to court after investigations were concluded.
