Police arrest suspected kidnappers, rescue 7 victims

Joint security operatives comprising the police and vigilantes in Niger State have arrested two suspected kidnappers in the state.

The suspects are: Isyaku Anaruwa Abdullahi, of Kwakuti village via Kafin-Koro, Paikoro Local Government Area and Muhammadu Sani Yakubu, of Paiko-Kore village in Gwagwalada area of FCT, Abuja.

Parading the suspects in Minna, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, said they were arrested on Friday around Lambata-Agaie-Gunu Road, Gurara LGA based on intelligence from the locals.

He said the suspects were arrested with support from the local vigilante members and during interrogation, they confessed to belonging to the kidnap syndicates terrorizing Gwagwalada FCT Abuja, Lambata and Kafin-Koro areas respectively.

Abiodun said three handsets and the sum of N2.1 million, collected as ransom negotiated to release two victims earlier abducted at Gwagwalada, were recovered.

The police spokesman said the suspects further confessed that the kidnapped victims were kept at Gwalo forest, between Lambata and Kafin-Koro areas.

“The victims were rescued unhurt, taken to FMC for medical attention and reunited with their families,” he said.
