The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with the killing of a commercial motorcyclist in the Igbesa area of the state.

The victim, identified as Sunday Ogbu, 36, reportedly died after sustaining injuries from a knife attack allegedly carried out by the suspect, identified simply as Chidi.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the incident occurred around 7am on April 8, 2026, when the suspect boarded the victim’s motorcycle.

He said the suspect allegedly attacked the motorcyclist in an attempt to dispossess him of the motorcycle, leading to a struggle.

The victim was later rescued and rushed to a hospital but was confirmed dead by a doctor.

Babaseyi said a witness raised the alarm, prompting a swift response from operatives of the Igbesa Division, who apprehended the suspect at the scene.

He added that the motorcycle and the knife used in the attack were recovered.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, condemned the killing and assured that justice would be served.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
