The Kano State police command has arrested a suspected  armed robbery gang leader, Mujahid Sulaiman.

Young Sulaiman was alleged to be a leader of a gang terrorizing residents of Sheka quarters in the state metropolis.

A statement signed by Police Public Relations Officer, SP Magaji Musa Majia, said the suspected gang leader was arrested last month.

“On Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at about 12:30am, a notorious armed robbery leader Mujahid Suleman of Sheka quarters, Kano, led three of his gang members: Rabiu Sama’ila, Uwardawa Abo and another simply identified as Al-Amir, all of same address and now at large,” the statement said.

It added that the suspects, armed with cutlasses and knives, stormed three houses located in Sheka quarters where they beat and injured residents before they robbed them of their belongings.

The suspected armed robbers took away one Toyota Vibe Motor vehicle; cash and other valuables worth about N3.9M.

“The suspect at hand, Mujahid Sulaiman, confessed to the crime and mentioned one Abdul-Aziz now at large as the person who fed them with information on the houses they attacked,” the statement said.

He added that a team of investigation officers was working around the clock to arrest the fleeing suspects and their accomplices.

Meanwhile the command has drawn a battle line with political thugs in the state, according, Majia, said.

The police spokesman said the command would not tolerate any move by political thugs to temper with peace being enjoyed by the citizens in the state.

He said the command had noticed with dismay that as the 2019 general elections draw closer, activities of political thugs were resurfacing in the state especially in the Kano south senatorial district, a development he said police would not condone.

He recalled that, “We noticed that supporters of some politicians in the Kano south senatorial district have developed the culture of brandishing local weapons at public gatherings, thereby intimidating public. Recently at a public function held in the zone, thugs were seen displaying local weapons in the open. We will not tolerate it and we will not take it lightly with anybody caught in the act.

“It is our sole responsibility to protect lives and properties of the citizens irrespective of the political parties they belong. We are therefore urging politicians to warn their supporters to desist from thuggery, as police will not spear any thug found wanting in possession of dangerous weapons.”
