Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested a suspected online fraudster (Yahoo Boy) for allegedly inflicting injuries on seven apprentices who were learning internet fraud under him.

The seven apprentices, who had reportedly been held captive in the suspect’s home for nearly two months, were rescued during the operation.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Edafe Bright, the suspect kept the victims in his house where he was teaching them online fraud.

He said one of the victims escaped and reported to the police that they were being assaulted regularly for failing to “attract a woman client” who would bring money.

Bright stated that the escapee’s report led to the suspect’s arrest, adding, “The victims said the suspect flogs them daily because they are unable to bring clients.”

He warned that online fraud remains a criminal offence in Nigeria and that anyone involved will face the full weight of the law.

Bright added that several mobile phones and 10 laptops were recovered from the suspect.

In a video seen by Daily Trust, the suspect admitted that the boys were learning internet fraud (Yahoo Yahoo) from him and claimed he flogged them because they were using his laptops to watch pornography.
