The police in Wuse Zone 3 Division of the FCT Command have arrested a member of a robbery syndicate that allegedly specialised in snatching valuables from motorists and pedestrians in the capital city.

The operation, which was carried out through the use of tracker device, also led to the arrest of five other persons who were involved in buying a stolen phone reportedly snatched from a woman along with other items in her hand bag while she was driving around the Central Area of the city.

A police source privy to the operation told our reporter yesterday that the victim was coming from the Sheraton junction and heading toward the National Mosque about two weeks ago when the syndicate snatched her handbag from inside her vehicle.

They reportedly did that as the woman slowed down to negotiate a bump on the road in the area.

The suspects reportedly ran into a nearby bush, while the woman reported the matter to the Wuse police division.

The source further added that items in the snatched bag included business documents, a Tecno mobile phone and N300,000.

It was gathered that the apprehended suspect, who gave his name as Emmanuel Mophard, confessed to have gotten N50,000 out of the stolen cash along with the phone that led to his arrest as his own share. He reportedly said one Peter James (who is still at large) was the one that invited him into the crime.

Other suspects arrested over the matter were, Alama George who reportedly confessed to have bought the stolen phone from Mophard and Obadiah Danjuma who confirmed the worth of the phone to George.

Three other persons that bought and later resold the phone to one another are Shuaibu Haruna, Yusuf Kyari, and Yakubu Umar.

Confirming the arrests, the FCT police command spokesman, DSP Anjuguri Manzah, said the suspects would be taken to court and effort redoubled to arrest their fleeing accomplice.
