Police arrest vandals targeting solar infrastructure in Abuja

The FCT police command has arrested two suspected vandals accused of destroying solar-powered streetlights and poles in Abuja.

The arrest followed a patrol by operatives of the Jabi Division who intercepted the suspects about 2:30 am on Saturday at the Kado axis.

Zagazola Makama, a security expert, reports that the suspects were caught in the act of damaging solar poles, cables, and lights.

According to the report, the suspects attempted to flee into nearby bushes and flower gardens on sighting the patrol team but were apprehended after a chase.

Items recovered from them include four solar light poles, one solar light, an iron shovel, two iron cutters, and two melter saws.

Police said the suspects have confessed to the crime and provided useful information on their accomplices and the receiver of the stolen items.
