The Police Command in Gombe State has arrested 28 suspected members of Kalare thugs, over alleged offenses of rape, theft and causing harm.

Parading the suspects yesterday, the state Commissioner of Police,  Shina Tairu Olukolu, said the suspects were arrested by the police in collaboration with other security agencies.

He said three of the suspects, Abubakar Mohammed, 19; Yusuf Munkaila Dayyabu, 19 both resident of Malam Kuri quarters and Abdullahi Bello, 19 of Bagadaza quarters were arrested over a case of criminal conspiracy, abduction and rape of two teenage girls.

According to the police, the suspects were arrested after one Abdul’aziz Jimoh of Bolari quarters of Gombe metropolis reported on August 20, 2018 that his daughter aged 16 and her friend aged 17 were abducted by the suspects.

Olukolu added that four of the suspects, Adamu Abubakar, 20, Suleiman Mohammed, 20, Yahaya Ibrahim, 19 and Abdullahi Idu, 20 all of Kumo town of Akko LGA allegedly attacked innocent passersby while sharing monetary gifts give to them by a politician.

He said the police had also arrested four notorious Kalare kingpins, one Adamu Musa, 19 and Auwalu Umar, 21 both of Pantami quarters Bus stop and Shuaibu Saleh, 18 and Mohammed Sani, 18 of Plateau junction and Water Board Area respective. The police commissioner said the suspects have been on the wanted list of the state command for weeks.

Olukolu added that 15 other suspects were arrested during a raid carried out by the Pantami Police Divisional Office over separate cases of criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, causing hurts, theft, and house trespass among others.

He said items recovered from the suspected Kalare thugs include; cutlasses, axes and other dangerous weapons.

He added that all the arrested suspects have confessed to their cries and would soon be charged to court to face the law.
